Today, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reported five new COVID-19 cases in Lake of Bays. The cases, which are all currently under investigation, are: two females aged 35-44, one male aged 35-44, one female aged 0-17 and one male aged 0-17. They are the first cases recorded for Lake of Bays since May 1.
The new cases bring the Lake of Bays overall case count to 25, 18 of which are active.
Huntsville’s overall case count to date is 122, with five currently active.
None of the Huntsville or Lake of Bays cases are in hospital. To date, two people have died from the disease in Huntsville, as well as a third person in Muskoka Lakes.
Elsewhere in Muskoka, Muskoka Lakes has six active cases (of 105 to date), Bracebridge has six active cases (of 87 to date), and Gravenhurst has nine active cases (of 81 to date). Georgian Bay has had 27 cases to date, but none are currently active.
As of June 4, within Muskoka there have been 152 cases confirmed as the Alpha (B.1.1.7) variant, five as the Gamma (P.1) variant, and one as the Beta (B.1.351) variant. No cases of the Delta (B.1.617) variant have been recorded in Muskoka.
There have been a total of 447 cases reported in Muskoka to date (33 of them currently active) and 11,564 in Simcoe County (639 active).
