Kansas City Royals @ Los Angeles Angels
In the opener of a three-game series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Monday night, Jackson Kowar will make his MLB debut for Kansas City. The right-hander was 5-0 with a 0.85 ERA and a 41–10 strikeout-to-walk ratio at AAA Omaha.
Dylan Bundy (0-6, 6.49 ERA) gets the start for the Halos. Despite the righty’s inflated ERA, the Angels have been an under machine when he gets the start. The under has gone 7-3 in Angels games when Bundy gets the ball.
With tonight’s over-under set at 9.0, I lean the under.
Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox
To kick off a series in Chicago against the White Sox on Tuesday, Robbie Ray (3-2, 3.57 ERA) is the scheduled starter for Toronto while Carlos Rodon (5-2, 1.98 ERA) is slated to get the ball for the White Sox.
Chicago has done very well against the run line this season. The While Sox 19-14 versus the run line at home in 2021, and also 6-3 straight up in games when Rondon gets the start. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, are 29-28 against the run line this season.
I will be watching for the run line here with an eye on taking the White Sox.
New York Yankees @ Minnesota Twins
In the middle game of this series on Wednesday, the scheduled pitching matchup is Randy Dobnak for the Twins (1-5, 6.19 ERA) versus New York’s Gerrit Cole (6-3, 2.26 ERA). Minny has been atrocious against the run line this season by going 19-40. The Twins are even worse at home, going a putrid 8-21 against the run line heading into this series.
Cole and the Yankees will be the run-line favourite in this game, so keep an eye on that.
If you’re not feeling a run-line bet, though, keep your eye on the total. The under has been a solid 8-4 in games Cole is the starter.
Houston Astros @ Boston Red Sox
The Astros are 6-1 in their last seven heading into this series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Houston is supposed to start Zack Greinke (6-2, 3.38 ERA) on Thursday, and that’s been a winning formula for them this season. The Astros are 10-3 straight up and are scoring 5.92 runs per game with the 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner takes the mound.
New York Mets @ San Diego Padres
When the Mets begin a three-game set with the Padres at Citi Field on Friday, Jacob deGrom is the scheduled starter — and that probably means you should bet the under. It almost goes without saying that deGrom’s start to this season has been incredible. The right-hander has an 0.62 ERA through nine starts, which is the lowest of any pitcher through his first nine starts of a season since that stat became official in both leagues in 1913 (minimum 40 innings pitched).
The two-time National League Cy Young Award winner also boasts an 0.57 WHIP, which — you guessed it — is the lowest by any pitcher through his first nine outings of a season since at least 1901 (minimum 40 innings pitched).
Not surprisingly, the under is 6-2-1 this season in games when deGrom gets the start. If you haven’t figured it out, take the under whatever that number might be.
