Senior Bor Schweiger Muzar was named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the third time in his career, juniors Kristopher Ortega and Victor Spolidorio each claimed the recognition for the second time while sophomore Mikko Malinen and second year freshman Mikael Vollbach received the academic accolade from the conference for the first time.
"I'm so proud of these guys," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "They have taken our program to new heights we've never seen on the court and then for them to show it in the classroom shows the type of character we recruit to NIU. These guys are winners and represent this proud tennis program we have built to the highest level."
In addition to their success in the classroom, the quintet led NIU to success on the court as the Huskies finished the 2021 season with a 21-3 overall record, finishing second in the MAC. Muzar and Ortega were both named to the All-MAC First Team while Vollbach earned MAC Freshman of the Year honors.
To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed.
