The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting five new COVID-19 cases, including two in Timmins, among residents of its catchment area as of early Tuesday afternoon.

The other three new cases are in the area of James Bay and Hudson Bay.
The five new cases announced on Tuesday bring the total number in the region since the pandemic began in mid-March of 2020 to 2,101, of which 18 remain active.
Statistics updated by health unit officials on Tuesday indicate 2,053 individuals have recovered, while 30 others died after contracting the illness.
Since the pandemic began, health unit officials have administered 113,244 tests across the region, with 1,094 variants of concern detected.
Vaccination efforts are ongoing, with 87,027 doses having been administered and 48,697 individuals having received at least one dose of vaccine to this point.
