Hurricanes extend qualifying offers to five restricted free agents - Canes Country

The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Monday that the team has extended qualifying offers to five restricted free agents ahead of the NHL’s qualifying offer deadline.

Forwards Andrei Svechnikov, Warren Foegele, and Egor Korshkov, defenseman Maxime Lajoie, and goalie Dylan Wells all received qualifying offers, which means they will all remain under team control as the offseason progresses.

Korshkov, who played the 2020-21 season in the KHL with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, had his NHL rights acquired by Carolina when the Canes flipped Alex Galchenyuk from the Senators to the Maple Leafs last season.

The Canes acquired Wells via trade from the Oilers for expansion draft purposes earlier this summer.

Foegele, Korshkov, and Lajoie are all arbitration-eligible this offseason.

Goalie Jeremy Helvig, a 2016 draft pick who was arrested in Florida on a battery charge (dating violence) in March of 2020, was the only restricted free agent who did not receive a qualifying offer from the team. He will be an unrestricted free agent when free agency opens up on Wednesday at noon EST.
