Ontario reporting 129 new COVID-19 cases and five more deaths - Toronto Star

Ontario is reporting another 129 COVID-19 cases and five more deaths, according to its latest report released Tuesday morning.

Ontario has administered 92,035 vaccine doses since its last daily update, with 19,110,428 vaccines given in total as of 8 p.m. the previous night.

According to the Star’s vaccine tracker, 10,408,317 people in Ontario have received at least one shot. That works out to approximately 79.8 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of 70.6 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The province says 8,702,111 people have completed their vaccinations, which means they’ve had both doses. That works out to approximately 66.8 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of 59.1 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The seven-day average is at 157 cases daily, or 7.5 weekly per 100,000. Ontario’s seven-day average for deaths is at 3.6 daily.

The province says 13,644 tests were completed the previous day, and a 1.0 per cent positivity rate.

There are 125 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 127 patients in intensive care. There are 81 people on ventilators. The ICU and ventilator numbers include those who currently test positive for COVID-19 as well as those who no longer test positive.

Locally, Health Minister Christine Elliott says there are 37 new cases in Toronto, 22 in Peel Region and 12 in Hamilton.

Meanwhile, one more resident in long-term-care has died for a total of 3,791 since the pandemic began, in the latest report released by the province.

Ontario is reporting no new long-term-care homes in outbreak, for a total of five or 0.8 per cent of LTC homes in the province.

This data is self-reported by the long-term-care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Daily case and death figures may not immediately match the numbers posted by the local public health units due to lags in reporting time.

There are 145,412 confirmed cases in Ontario of the Alpha variant first detected in the United Kingdom, an increase of seven from the previous day.

There are 1,492 cases in Ontario of the Beta variant first detected in South Africa, with no new cases reported from the previous day.

There are 5,142 cases of the Gamma variant first found in Brazil, and no new cases from the previous day.

There are 3,921 cases of the Delta variant first detected in India, an increase of five from the previous day.
