KENT, Ohio — Five Kent State graduates will compete at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics over the coming weeks, breaking the school's previous record of four Olympians at the Munich Games in 1972.
The quintet will represent four different countries with Reggie Jagers III being the first Golden Flash to don the Team USA uniform since Kim Kreiner in 2008.
The Canadian duo of Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes will be Kent State's first alumni in action. The men's golf competition consists of four rounds of 18 holes, beginning on Thursday, July 29 and concluding on Sunday, August 1.
Jagers III and Jamaican Danniel Thomas-Dodd are scheduled for the qualifying round of throwing events as track and field action begins on Friday, July 30. Jagers III will make his Olympics debut in the men's discus throw and aims to advance to the finals the following day. Thomas-Dodd will compete in the women's shot put for the second straight Olympics. The Westmoreland, Jamaica native hopes to improve on her 26th-place showing in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and advance to the finals on Sunday, August 1.
Samory Fraga will be the final Flash to compete when he wears the Brazilian uniform for men's long jump qualifying on Saturday, July 31. Following a day of rest, the event finals will take place on Monday, August 2.
