Bottas and Stroll handed five-place grid drops for Belgian GP for triggering Turn 1 crashes in Hungary - Formula 1 RSS UK

Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll have been handed a five-place grid drops for the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix after the stewards in Budapest found them both to blame for causing avoidable collisions on the opening lap of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

After making a poor getaway from second on the grid in the slippery conditions, Bottas got his braking wrong into Turn 1 and ran into the back of Lando Norris's McLaren. Norris then slid across the road and collided with Max Verstappen's Red Bull, with Sergio Perez also collected.

Bottas, Perez and Norris all retired as a result of the collision, with Bottas accepting his mistake had triggered "a mess".

“I had a poor start,” rued the Finn, “Wheelspin off the line, and lost places, and then braking into first corner I was right in the gearbox of Lando and I just locked the wheels. So probably being that close didn’t calculate quite right the braking point, locked two wheels, hit him, and then it was a mess.”

Stroll meanwhile drove into the side of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari after getting his braking wrong at Turn 1, despite trying to take avoiding action.

Both Bottas and Stroll were also handed two penalty points on their licenses for the crash, bringing their respective totals for the last 12 months to four and six.
