The Eastern Ontario Health unit added six confirmed COVID-19 cases and removed one in its Friday afternoon update, for a net increase in cumulative cases of five.

The Friday afternoon update added one new case in each of the municipalities of Clarence-Rockland, Hawkesbury, Casselman, South Dundas, North Stormont, and Cornwall, and removed a case from Alfred & Plantagenet. The EOHU’s cumulative count now sits at 4,895.
There were four cases set as resolved since Thursday’s update, for a net increase of one in the active caseload, which is now at 78. There are 19 active cases in Cornwall, three in the northern portion of Akwesasne, five in South Glengarry, six in North Glengarry, two in North Stormont, five in South Stormont, four in South Dundas, two in North Dundas, three in Russell, seven in Casselman, two in The Nation, eight in Hawkesbury, two in Champlain, two in Alfred & Plantagenet, and eight in Clarence-Rockland.
The number of people hospitalized for treatment increased by three since Thursday to reach a total of four, one of whom is being cared for in an intensive/critical care unit. The number of fatalities remained stable at 112.
Public Health Ontario releases a weekly snapshot of testing for variants of concern and variants of interest. In its latest update, for the COVID-19 cases confirmed in the EOHU between July 18 to Aug. 14, 30 are variants of concern. That breaks down to 13 Alpha, two Gamma, and 15 Delta. That’s an increase of four Delta-variant cases since last week’s update.

The Ontario data updated each morning assigned an additional six cases to the EOHU, for a running total of 4,783. When looking at the 76 cases added to the Ontario data for the EOHU since Aug. 27, 25 are in those aged under 20 (32.9 per cent), 20 are in their 20s (26.3 per cent), 10 are in their 30s (13.1 per cent), nine are in their 40s (11.8 per cent), and the remaining nine are 50 or older. The proportion of new cases among those under 40 remains large, at 72.3 per cent, but declined slightly since the start of this week when it was at 75 per cent of recent cases.

The EOHU reported an additional 728 COVID-19 doses administered since its Thursday update, for a total of 295,715 doses administered since Jan. 12. As of Friday, the EOHU reported 84.1 per cent of the eligible population aged 12 and over in the region had received at least one dose, with 77.5 per cent as fully vaccinated.
Lastly, the EOHU reported an additional 214 COVID-19 tests collected at its assessment centres since its Thursday update, for a running total of 151,610.
The health unit does not report updated COVID-19 data on holidays, so the next local numbers will be posted Tuesday, Sept. 7. The next scheduled briefing is set for Monday, Sept. 13.
