Five more Saskatchewan residents have died after testing positive for COVID-19 as the province reported 231 new cases and a slight drop in hospitalizations Saturday.

One person who died was in their 20s or 30s and four were in their 60s or 70s.
The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 fell by 20 between Friday and Saturday, with a total of 288 hospitalizations. Out of these patients, nearly 72 per cent were not fully vaccinated. This total includes 77 people in ICU, but does not include the seven ICU patients that have been transferred to Ontario for care to date. The province said on its online COVID-19 dashboard Saturday that “additional transfers are being planned.”
Saskatchewan also reported 231 new cases on Saturday, of which 49 were in children under the age of 12 who cannot yet get vaccinated. This was out of 3,181 tests done for a daily test positivity rate of 7.3 per cent.
The new cases are located in the far north west (14), far north east (six), north west (17), north central (22), north east (11), Saskatoon (48), central west (one), central east (20), Regina (43), south west (nine), south central (three) and south east (24) zones. The remaining 13 cases are waiting for residence information.
Active cases also dropped to 3,040 after another 322 people recovered. The seven-day average of daily new cases now sits at 286.
Another 4,146 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered on Friday, with 1,411 being used as first shots. Eighty-five per cent of residents now have their first shot, while 76 per cent have received both doses.
