One of the people who died was in their 20s or 30s, two were in their 60s or 70s and one was 80 years old or older. The age of the remaining death was not accounted for on the provincial government’s online COVID-19 dashboard.

As those people lost their lives, nearly 3,000 more people received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 5,681 more doses were administered on Friday, of which 2,964 were used as first shots.

Since Oct. 1, when the province’s vaccination mandate took effect, more than 20,000 people have received their first shot.

But Saskatchewan’s number of new cases remain high, with 502 new cases reported Saturday. The highest proportion of cases continues to be in children under the age of 12, with 129 of Saturday’s cases in this age group. Out of the cases in people ages 12 and up, who are eligible to be vaccinated, nearly 80 per cent were not fully vaccinated.

The province’s hospitals also continue to see record-high numbers of COVID-19 patients in ICUs. There were a total of 332 people in hospital with the disease on Saturday, including 78 in ICU. Of these patients, more than three quarters were not fully vaccinated.

The new cases are located in the far north west (22), far north east (22), north west (63), north central (29), north east (14), Saskatoon (124), central west (7), central east (38), Regina (81), south west (27), south central (nine) and south east (47) zones. Another 19 new cases are waiting for residence information.
