
“We also want to keep things as straightforward and as simple as possible,” says Henry.
Before Tuesday’s announcement, masks were only required for everyone aged 12 and older.
“For youth, whether taking the school bus or the city bus, the rules are the same. And I just want to say how impressed I am I continue to be amazed at the adaptability and the resilience of children across this province,” says Henry.
The order for schools was implemented on October 4th in addition to existing rules for students and staff in Grades 4 to 12.
Over the weekend, provincial health officials announced that parents can now register their children aged five to 11 for the COVID-19 vaccine through the Get Vaccinated portal.
The shot has yet to be approved for children, but the province says parents will be notified when they can book an appointment for their children.
Henry mentioned Tuesday that the vaccine could be available as early as next month for children.
“We continue to talk with school communities, families and parents to ensure the process will be as seamless as possible for everyone and make sure that our logistics are all in place so that we can provide this vaccine as soon as it’s available.”
