Twice Shares the Stories Behind Five of Their Memorable Songs - Glamour

“I still remember when we would drive up to the performance venue, walk up the stage, receive cheers, and hear ‘Wow, it’s Twice!’” Dahyun says.

“I’m still surprised to see not just our fans but a lot of celebrities dance to the song. They remember and they know the choreography and they dance to the song, “ Tzuyu says. “And that makes me really happy.”

“The Feels”

Since signing with Republic Records in early 2020, Twice has produced English versions of their lead singles (“More & More,” “I Can’t Stop Me,” “Cry for Me”) while making appearances on talk shows like Ellen, Kelly Clarkson, and Stephen Colbert. It was only a matter of time until the group followed suit with a single made for the United States. Written by Woo Min Lee (a.k.a. collapsedone), Justin Reinstein, Anna Timgren, and Boy Matthews, “The Feels” captures what it’s like to be crushing on someone and yearning to know if the other person feels the same way. The song’s catchy dance pop hooks stay true to the group’s signature sound. The only difference? They’re going global.

“When we decided on releasing this track as our first English single in the U.S., a lot of people thought about what kind of concept we will go with, but we thought that it would be most befitting to be ourselves and basically just show Twice as is in this song,” Nayeon says.

One difficulty in recording the single, of course, was something every person learning a new language understands: nailing pronunciation. “The song itself is really hard because it has very high notes, but at the same time we had to focus on our pronunciation of each word, so that makes it even harder,” says Nayeon.

Adds Jihyo, “We practiced over and over to get our pronunciation right so listeners could catch the lyrics. Even though practicing was a little hard, we are glad we recorded the song in English because we can reach a wider audience.”

“The intro part where it goes, ‘Boy I, boy I,’ I thought that had a great hooks, and it was so addictive,” says Mina.

“The Feels” not only checks off their first U.S. single, “it was our first time having backup dancers,” Tzuyu says. “In the music video, we had a prom scene and the dancers also dressed up. It made me want to attend a prom myself.”

“The dancing scene was filmed at a small space with other dancers, so the energy built up quickly. We made a circle and freestyle danced which made things extremely fun. I didn’t feel like we were working at all, but felt like we were having a good time, enjoying the moment together. I really felt like I was at a dance party,” Dahyun concludes.

Adblock test (Why?)
