VB: Cowgirls Drop Five Setter To Southeastern - McNeese Athletics

HAMMOND-  For the first time this season, McNeese volleyball ended a match with five players with double figure kills but that wasn't good enough here Thursday night as the Cowgirls fell to Southeastern in five sets (25-22, 24-26, 25-11, 21-25, 11-15) in Southland Conference action.
 
Regan Stiawalt led McNeese with 16 kills while Macee Krpec (14), Jaylin Gordon (13), Aryn Johnson (12), and Kendall Glueck (10) also ended the match with 10 or more kills. Gordon ended the match with a .706 hitting percent, committing only one hitting error in 17 attempts.
 
Lizzy Low led all players with career high 28 digs while setters Ceci Harness and Baylee Laskoskie ended the match with 30 and 23 assists, respectively.
 
McNeese (8-7, 2-2 SLC) took a 2-1 overall match lead with a 25-22 opening set win. Southeastern (4-11, 3-1 SLC) tied the match at one set apiece with a 26-24 second set win. A dominating third set 25-11 win by the Cowgirls, who ended the set with a .458 team hitting percent, gave McNeese a 2-1 overall match advantage.
 
Southeastern's Cicily Hidalgo and Hannah Brewer took matters into their own hands in the fourth set, combining for nine of the 1th Lady Lions 14 kills to help Southeastern to the set win to even the match at two sets apiece. Hidalgo led all players with 26 kills and the Lady Lions ended the match with 26 blocks with Hidalgo and Crispin Adams leading the way with five apiece.
 
Both teams traded points for the first 10 points of the fifth set.  With the scored tied at five, back-to-back Cowgirl errors and a Lady Lion kill gave Southeastern an 8-5 lead and one they wouldn't give up.
 
McNeese got within one point (9-8) but couldn't get any closer as Southeastern outscored McNeese 6-3 the rest of the way to take the fifth set and the match.
 
The Cowgirls will travel to Northwestern State this Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • Was only the second five set match for McNeese this season. Cowgirls are now 1-1 in five set matches.
  • McNeese had five players record 10 or more kills
  • Regan Stiawalt led McNeese with 16 kills
  • Lizzy Low led all players with a career high 28 digs. The match is also her 10th match with 10 or more digs
  • Ceci Harness led McNeese with 30 assists. It's her second career match with 30 or more assists and 14th match with at least 10 assists.
  • Baylee Laskoskie ended the match with a season high 23 assists and it's her ninth match with 10 or more assists.  
  • Macee Krpec recorded a season high 14 kills
  • Jaylin Gordon picked up a career high 13 kills and hit a career high .706
