Lightning extend point streak to five, defeat Sens in Ottawa - Official site of the Tampa Bay Lightning

The Lightning went into Ottawa on Saturday afternoon and extended their point streak to five games with a 5-3 victory over the Senators.

Even with Thursday's late letdown to Toronto, the Bolts will return home from this two-game road trip through Ontario having earned three of a possible four points.

Brian Elliott made his second start of the season and picked up his first win as a Bolt, stopping 24 of 27 shots.

Scoring Summary

1st Period
TBL 1, OTT 0

4:27 Victor Hedman (1) - Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point - PPG
Just 16 seconds into their first power play chance of the opening period, Victor Hedman's blast from the point took a deflection off Connor Brown in front and got past Matt Murray to stake the Bolts to an early lead. The goal was one of only four shots on goal from Tampa Bay in the first period. The Bolts leaned heavily on Brian Elliott in the period, calling on the goaltender to make 13 saves to take the one-goal lead into intermission.

2nd Period
TBL 1, OTT 1

1:39 Connor Brown (2) - Unassisted
A Cal Foote turnover quickly ended up in the back of the Bolts net to tie the game at one early in the second period. Connor Brown held in the defenseman's clearing attempt and snapped a beautiful shot off the left wing past Elliott's glove.

TBL 2, OTT 1
10:06 Jan Rutta (1) - Ondrej Palat
Ondrej Palat was able to settle the puck off an offensive zone faceoff win and find Rutta at the top of the slot. Nick Paul inadvertently screened Murray in front and Rutta's shot managed to get through for his first goal of the season.

TBL 2, OTT 2
19:17 Brady Tkachuk (3) - Drake Batherson, Josh Norris
The Lightning failed to get their one-goal lead to intermission, however, conceding a goal to Brady Tkachuk in the final minute of the second period. On a 2-on-1 rush, Drake Batherson's cross-ice feed landed on Tkachuk's stick and he one-timed a shot home to equalize just before the end of the period.

3rd Period
TBL 3, OTT 2
7:32 Steven Stamkos (6) - Alex Killorn, Mathieu Joseph
Steven Stamkos scored the go-ahead goal off a rebound just past the seven-minute mark of the third period. Off the rush, Murray made a save on Mathieu Joseph, but Stamkos pounced on the rebound at the far post and scored to put Tampa Bay ahead for good.

TBL 4, OTT 2
18:19 Ondrej Palat (4) - Anthony Cirelli, Ryan McDonagh
After the Bolts survived a strong push from Ottawa on the previous shift, Ondrej Palat provided some-much needed insurance to remove any chance of a comeback. A feed from Anthony Cirelli sprung Palat in alone on Murray and he slipped the shot home to stretch the Bolts' lead to two.

TBL 5, OTT 2
19:26 Anthony Cirelli (3) - Ondrej Palat - ENG
Palat returned the favor for Cirelli on the empty net goal, passing up a chance for his second of the afternoon to give Cirelli his third goal of the season.

TBL 5, OTT 3
19:44 Logan Shaw (1) - Victor Mete, Parker Kelly
Logan Shaw rounded out the scoring, deflecting Victor Mete's shot past Elliott in the final minute of regulation.
