The reappointment was approved unanimously by the college’s board of governors.

Pam Jolliffe, board chair, said: “Vaughan has shown exemplary leadership skills while stewarding the College and its surrounding communities through the COVID-19 pandemic – in addition to the regular college operations she is responsible for overseeing.

“President Vaughan’s entrepreneurial spirit and forward-thinking approach to leadership is what sets Loyalist College apart and has us exceeding expectations as a small, rural  college,” Jolliffe said in a news release.

With Vaughan at the helm, good things are happening at Loyalist College.

The college said a major component of Loyalist College’s strategic direction is its industry-aligned cluster-based approach to developing applied programs and research which responds to market needs and prepares career-ready graduates.

Through strategic moves, the college said Vaughan has positioned Loyalist College well to lead the Bay of Quinte region in its post-COVID recovery by fostering entrepreneurship, innovation and supporting local industry and community partners to rebuild and recover.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be reappointed as president and CEO of Loyalist College for another five years,” said Vaughan.

“These last 20 months have been an exceptionally challenging time for everyone, but it has also shown us that there is no challenge that is insurmountable. It has been remarkable to see how so many of the college’s students, employees, and alumni stepped up to carry the health and safety of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The college said Vaughan is helping to pioneer the sector’s micro-credential movement through her role as co-chair of eCampus Ontario’s board. Vaughan also serves on the board for Ontario Genomics, a non-profit organization which is focused on nurturing genomics innovation in Ontario, and applying these technologies across key sectors, such as health, agriculture, bioproducts, and environment, to support the province’s knowledge-based economy.

Before joining Loyalist College, Vaughan was president of the College of the North Atlantic, in Newfoundland and Labrador where she was recognized as a Top 50 CEO in Atlantic Canada in 2015.

Since coming to Belleville, she has served as a Rotarian, on the board of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, and as president of the Quinte Figure Skating Club.
