Ullmark helps Bruins push point streak to five with win against Flames - NHL.com

CALGARY -- Linus Ullmark made 40 saves to help the Boston Bruins extend their point streak to five games with a 4-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.

Brad Marchand scored and had an assist for the Bruins (14-8-2), who are 3-0-2 during the streak and won twice on a three-game Western Canada road trip.

"We're certainly happy with the results," Ullmark said. "Five points on the road is always a nice one. It's tough games coming over here. We did a really good job of converting in these games and it's huge going forward for us."

Matthew Tkachuk and Sean Monahan scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 23 saves for the Flames (15-7-6), who have lost four in a row after a three-game winning streak.

"If you're a team that doesn't have secondary scoring and you get average goaltending then you're up against it, so that's the adversity you're facing," Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said.

Connor Clifton scored short-side from a sharp angle to put Boston up 1-0 with 2:17 remaining in the first period.

Marchand made it 2-0 at 5:52 of the second period when he tipped David Pastrnak's spinning wrist shot from the point.

"'DP's' very talented up there, just so deceptive," Marchand said. "When he spins, a lot of times he'll look to pass that across the ice, so I was kind of waiting on that. He did a great job holding that guy off and getting the puck to the net, and luckily that one went in."

The goal came 2:41 after Ullmark saved Andrew Mangiapane's shot and Milan Lucic's rebound attempt at the edge of the crease with Calgary on the power play.

"He played great," Marchand said. "You have to be able to rely on your goalie to come up big if you want to be a good team. He's got to be able to keep you in it when the other team's putting a lot of pressure on and make the big saves on the kill like he did tonight. When they were pushing, we were kind of hemmed in our zone and he came up with all the big saves at the right time."

Charlie McAvoy made it 3-0 at 6:48 when he took a centering pass in the high slot from Patrice Bergeron and shot through a screen.

Tkachuk cut the lead to 3-1 with a power-play goal at 12:19. It ended an 0-for-13 drought spanning five games.

"Lots of shots, not a ton of chances, but they capitalized on theirs early, and when you get behind 3-0 against a team like that, all of those guys have been there before, in the Stanley Cup Finals, or at least most of them know how to win," Tkachuk said. "They played a solid game once they got the lead."

Curtis Lazar made it 4-1 at 2:57 of the third period on a second rebound after Trent Frederic's first two chances off the rush. Lucic's centering pass deflected off Monahan's skate at 18:24 for the 4-2 final.

"A lot of heart. A lot of heart," Ullmark said. "We grinded it out, and whenever we had the opportunity to put one in we did it. We capitalized on our chances, and that's what got us the win tonight."

NOTES: Boston is 11-0-0 when leading entering the second period. ... With his 554th assist, Bergeron moved ahead of Phil Esposito for fourth Bruins history. He extended his point streak to three games (one goal, three assists). ... Flames forward Elias Lindholm had a four-game point streak end (two goals, two assists).
