The three-point threat of Jeremy Harris and Jason Calliste was too much for the Windsor Express as the Sudbury Five picked up a 113-108 victory to kick off their NBLC campaign, said the National Basketball League of Canada in its game recap.
The duo of Calliste and Harris combined for 36 points from beyond the arc, Harris finishing with 26 points, snatching 14 rebounds along the way,
Calliste finished the day with 22 points, six rebounds and two assists, while NBLC returnee Dexter Williams Jr. got 24 points of his own, as well as six rebounds and four assists.
While the Express lost key guard Kareem Canty to injury in the second half, that didn't stop them from putting up a fight.
Reigning NBLC MVP Billy White put up 26 points and 10 rebounds while NBLC newcomer Lance Tejada scored 27 points and grabbed 15 boards, two impressive double-double performances to start off the season. Both went 11-11 from the free-throw line.
However, in the end, it was the strong shooting of the Sudbury Five that was too hot to handle for the Express. The Five shot 39 per cent from three, going 16-41, while Windsor was a bit more reluctant to shoot the three-ball, going only 9-29 from long range.
Sudbury look to continue their winning ways as they go across the border Thursday to take on the Indiana All-Americans of the TBL.
