Five police officers were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after escorting residents out of a nine-story apartment building in Côte St-Luc on Saturday night.
The officers arrived on the scene at about 11 p.m., before the fire department, said Caroline Chèvrefils, a media relations officer for Montreal police. They immediately began evacuating the 62-unit building at 7920 Côte St-Luc Rd., just east of Westminster Ave.
Police Station 9 is just around the corner, at 5501 Westminster Ave.
There were no other injuries and firefighters quickly managed to bring the blaze under control.
