SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Oregon took advantage of slightly better playing conditions Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club to be in line to challenge for the team's fifth-straight top five finish of the spring.
The Ducks shot a 22-over 372 in the second round – nine shots better than Monday's opening round – to move up a spot to seventh at 53-over. Oregon enters the final round four shots behind two teams tied for fourth place at plus-49, Arizona and Washington. Just ahead of the Ducks is Colorado State in sixth at 52-over.
"Guys are battling, giving everything they have," said head coach Casey Martin. "The course and the conditions have been a lot to deal with."
How It Happened: Freshman Greyson Leach paced the Ducks on Tuesday with a 2-over 72. He had four birdies as he climbed to 14th individually at 7-over 147. The Ducks also counted a 72 from Nate Stember, who was a shot back of Leach in 18th at 8-over 148.
Eric Doyle had a 75 Tuesday, Owen Avrit carded a 76 and Greg Solhaug shot a 77 to round out the scoring for the Ducks. Avrit was tied for 29th at 10-over.
