Members of the Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged five separate drivers with impaired operation-related offences in the past five days.
Officers have worked tirelessly to ensure the roads are safe and are concerned that drivers are not getting the message to drive sober.
On April 27, just before 1 a.m., Huronia West OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Caribou Trail in Wasaga Beach. Officers conducted a traffic stop and were led into an impaired operation investigation.
An 18-year-old female from Wasaga Beach has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Take motor vehicle without consent
On April 26, just after 9 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted Huronia West OPP to report a possible impaired driver trying to leave a business parking lot in Wasaga Beach. Officers located the vehicle and were led into an impaired operation investigation.
David Enman, 30, from Hillsdale has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On April 25, just after 6:30 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted Huronia West OPP to report a possible impaired driver in the area of George Johnston Road in Springwater Township. The officer commenced a traffic stop with the involved driver and was led into an impaired operation investigation.
Catherine Harrington, 63, from Minesing has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On April 24, just before 5 p.m., a Huronia West OPP officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Mosley Street in Wasaga Beach. The officer was led into an impaired operation investigation.
Kristina Peterson, 26, from Wasaga Beach has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On April 23, just after 4 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted Huronia West OPP to report a possible impaired driver in the area of Alpine Trail in Springwater Township. The officer commenced a traffic stop with the involved driver and was led into an impaired operation investigation.
Diana Ilavsky, 39, from Barrie has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
The associated vehicles were impounded for seven days and the involved accused had their driver’s licences suspended for 90 days.
The above accused persons are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood in June to answer to the charges.
Huronia West OPP detachment commander, Insp. Leah Gilfoy, would like to reiterate that “driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is never acceptable and will not be tolerated.
“Be responsible. If you plan on consuming drugs or alcohol, don’t drive. Further, thank you to our frontline police officers for their efforts and to our community members for their commitment to keeping our roads safe and free from impaired drivers. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911.”
