CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Creighton University had five women who are among the 1,432 collegiate golfers recognized by the Women's Golf Coaches Association as All-American Scholars. The Bluejay honorees include freshman Katie Berrian, sophomores Claire Orcutt and Gabby Tremblay, junior Katie Allen, and senior Margaret Hickey.
Creighton's five honorees were tied with Xavier for the second-most in the BIG EAST, two shy of St. John's league-leading seven.
Hickey was recognized for the fourth consecutive year, while it was the third such honor for Allen. Orcutt and Tremblay made the list for a second season in a row, while Berrian made her debut on the list. All five women owned a spot on the Creighton Dean's List in both semesters during the recently completed 2020-21 academic year. Creighton now owns 31 honorees since 2014.
Hickey is a senior from Glencoe, Ill., who ranked fifth on the club with a 82.80 scoring average in 2020-21. She graduated in May with a career scoring average of 80.94 in 86 loops as a Bluejay.
A Phoenix, Ariz., native, Allen owned a scoring average of 79.93 during her junior campaign, giving her three of the top nine single-season scoring averages by a Bluejay in the past 19 years. Seven of Allen's 15 rounds finished in the 70s in 2020-21, including a 1-under 71 to open the BIG EAST Championships on April 23rd in Fort Myers, Fla.
For the second straight season, Tremblay led Creighton with a 78.53 scoring average. That figure is the program's fourth-best single-season mark on the record books in history, and helped her finish in the top-12 in three of her final four tournaments. She finished the year tied for second at the BIG EAST Championships.
Orcutt hails from Mankato, Minn. Her 80.83 scoring average in 15 circuits featured four rounds in the 70s and was nearly three shots better than her average a year ago.
Berrian is a product of Castle Rock, Colo.. She competed in all five tournaments for Creighton in 2020-21 and ranked fourth on the team with an 82.47 stroke average.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50, and the student-athlete must have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated.
