Senior Lauren Ingle and junior Sofia Gomez Enriquez were both named to the Academic All-MAC team for the second time in their careers, while junior Caroline Klemp, sophomore Ahra Ko and second year freshman Jasmine Ly qualified for the team for the first time. The MAC did not name an Academic All-MAC team in 2020 after the season was cut short due to COVID-19.
"We are super excited to have five players make the Academic All-MAC team," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "This shows the dedication they have to excelling in the classroom as well as on the course. The future is bright for all five of these Huskie golfers. It's great to see their hard work paying off."
In addition to the Mid-American Conference honor, Gomez Enriquez, Ingle and Ly were named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Tuesday as they met the minimum requirement of a 3.50 cumulative GPA to earn recognition from that organization.
Three of the Huskies' five Academic All-MAC student-athletes are business majors. Ly, who plans to major in business administration, posted the highest GPA of the group with a 3.982. Gomez Enriquez carries a 3.667 GPA in accountancy while Klemp has a 3.500 in finance. Ingle, a nursing major with a 3.778 GPA, also became the first NIU women's golfer to earn first team All-MAC honors in 2021. Ko is a health sciences/pre-physical therapy major with a 3.373 GPA.
All five were members of the NIU line-up that helped lead the Huskies to a second-place finish at the 2021 MAC Championships, tied for the best in school history. The Huskies' five honorees included every eligible student-athlete, based on class and participation, and tied the school record for most players named to the Academic All-MAC team. NIU's five Academic All-MAC student-athletes for 2021 tied for second-most in the league this year.
