Summer may be winding down but there’s no end in sight for the good times at Sue Chamberlain’s “five-star resort” on Lake Ontario.

Take her family home’s massive rooftop patio, for example. The 2,000-square-foot space she calls a “360-degree room” comes with outdoor kitchen, gas fire table and hot tub. Enclosed by glass railings, it offers unobstructed views in every direction.

“It’s an awesome place to be in any season!” Chamberlain enthuses. “Early mornings are especially beautiful, watching the sun come up over the lake with a coffee in hand.”

The property “feels like a five-star resort in the Napa Valley because when you look to the south you see the rolling vineyards with the (Niagara) Escarpment in the distance,” she says.

Located in a “really spectacular” spot in Beamsville, an hour from downtown Toronto between Hamilton and St. Catharines, the luxury home is actually comprised of three self-contained residences to accommodate family members or guests. There’s a two-floor home in the main building, a separate lower-level suite and a spacious apartment above the detached garage.

He recalls seeing the “dramatically updated” $4-million property for the first time: “It was like, ‘Oh my word.’ It was way bigger than I thought it was and everything is done to the nth degree. Every detail was thought-out and then some.”

Chamberlain, who comes from a large family, explains that when they bought the property, their vision was of a place designed for hosting and entertaining. The previous owner had left his “ambitious renovation” on the house unfinished so they undertook a complete redo.

“It was a bit of a family effort,” says Chamberlain, crediting her brother for designing and completing the project last year.

While the outdoor amenities are the showstoppers, the house itself is “very luxurious,” she says, listing the huge soaker tub in the primary bedroom suite, the living room and spacious upstairs office — “with a book, looking out at the lake” — among her favourite places to be.

The two-storey garage is a “really fun place, great for hanging out with friends,” says Chamberlain. Its 1,700-sq.-ft. second floor includes a full kitchen, dining and lounging areas as well as pool and ping-pong tables.

The ground floor has ample space for storing vehicles, working on machines or even playing basketball, according to Geleynse.

Describing the property as a “four-season retreat,” he says it’s a great place to work from home or to return to, from the office. Located on a dead-end road and equipped with multiple motion sensors and surveillance cameras for maximum privacy and security, he says.

Chamberlain adds that “it is easy to get on the highway and zip to Toronto, Hamilton, or anywhere in Niagara quickly.” A GO train station is also expected to open next year in Grimsby, 10 minutes away.

In-between pandemic lockdowns, “there have definitely been some fun times” at her “resort,” says Chamberlain. “But I think the next owner will be the one to form the real memories here.”
